I used to go with mom to the tennis club. She would play tennis and I would sit on the patio and drink Shirley Temples and play with my dolls. The bartender would always make a fancy drink with several cherries and at least one umbrella. I collected them, and my Barbie’s used them in the rain. I can remember opening them gently so that the thin paper didn’t tear. Spending time at the courts seemed like a big extended family reunion. Mom’s friends always took the time to stop and talk and later taught me how to play tennis. A drink with an umbrella always takes me back to Shirley Temples on the patio.
